#GivingTuesday is a global movement to create an international day of giving.
If you are familiar with the traditions around Thanksgiving in America, you may be aware that the day after Thanksgiving has become known as ‘Black Friday’, a day when the shopping season starts leading up to Christmas. To match that, online retailers have claimed the following Monday as their day.. hence ‘Cyber Monday’.
#GivingTuesday is the antidote, designed to encourage all the millions of people and businesses who give generously throughout the year.
2015 is #GivingTuesday’s fourth year. It started in America, as you’d expect, but has grown to become a global event; over 40 countries were involved last year. This year will be the second for the UK.
The #GivingTuesdayUK website is here.
The Opportunities Fund
We have signed up as a partner to support this event promoting charitable giving. This will be a great opportunity for us to celebrate the generosity of our partners, both corporate and charities.
We are currently considering how best to maximise our opportunities through this, particularly for next year, but it will certainly include making a public fuss of our generous supporters. If you have any thoughts on this, we would welcome your feedback and ideas. You can get in touch with us here.
What Are You Planning for #GivingTuesdayUK?
We’d love to know if you are planning anything special in Nottinghamshire for #GivingTuesday. Please do let us know, as we’d love to steal your ideas. JUST JOKING! But there may be scope to put our heads together in some way. Again, you can reach us here.
