How we started
Our founder, Benoit Ivernel, left his French homeland in 2009 to take up residence in his adopted heartland, Nottingham. His business background and experience of working in charities included creating a local network for a national charity in France, ‘Cultures du Coeur’ (Cultures of the Heart). These gave him the expertise he needed to create a new charity in Nottingham, established using his own private funds.
“I wanted to give opportunities to people who are not as privileged as I am – people marginalised by society – but I didn’t want to reinvent the wheel. There are already a lot of charities doing a great job. From experience, though, I knew how vitally important – but difficult – it can be to raise funds for projects which are not in the mainstream.
“There are companies, and individuals as well, who are willing to help but don’t know where to start. So we came up with a simple idea: Firstly, to find worthwhile projects that follow our principles of helping disadvantaged people to overcome the barriers that keep them from achieving their aspirations – projects that we can share with investors – and, secondly, to raise money to finance these.
“So, as well as financing some projects directly, we provide a conduit between investors and our partner charities, to monitor the outcomes of the projects, provide feedback showing exactly how donors’ money is spent, and to provide opportunities for personal and staff involvement .”
Following a successful launch, we are gearing up for the next phase of our story. Won’t you join us for the next chapter?
